Chapter 134

Ordinary Happiness (普 (ふ) 通 (つう) の幸 (しあわ) せ, Futsū no Shiawase^?) is the 134th Chapter of the Chainsaw Man manga.

Summary[]

Denji is shown walking by numerous televisions and students, hearing the mixed opinion of the public's perception of Chainsaw Man. News of the prophecy has spread, to the point where students erroneously state that Chainsaw Man will fight Nostradamus himself.

Arriving home, Denji begins to clean Nayuta's hair, with the latter talking about how the Church of Chainsaw Man is clashing with police. Denji confesses that he decided to give up transforming into Chainsaw Man, as he believes that not only is the life he has now is perfect, but he doesn't want to sacrifice her life for the sake of his own happiness. Nayuta challenges the former idea, causing him to have an epiphany later that night. Conversing with Pochita, he wonders if it's ok for him to pursue a life that's better than average, only to be interrupted by Meowy joining them.

Still awake, Denji begins channel surfing, only to stumble upon another speech being performed by Haruka. A member of the crowd raises numerous concerns regarding both the recruitment demographics and collateral damage caused by the church. Haruka responds by telling him that not only do they inform the city and ministry of defense prior to their activities, but they also only recruit experienced hunters. He then goes on to say that the members must follow Chainsaw Man’s tenets in order to be a member, as that way, they'll only be fighting for selfless reasons. The crowd member asks what these tenets are, before questioning their validity. Haruka replies that he received the teachings from Chainsaw Man directly, before offering to let him speak to the public himself. As Haruka gets the crowd into a chant, Denji rushes to the phone, eager to speak to the masses, only to look back in shock as a random hunter claims to be Chainsaw Man.

The man begins to explain his origin story; that his body is half human, half Devil, and that he got his powers after a run-in with the Justice Devil. He then explains that the reason why he fights is to "rid the world of Devils". As he begins to explain his motives in Biblical terms, Denji shouts at the TV, waking Nayuta from her sleep. He then begins to rant, stating that he never did what he did for any ultimate goal and that people began to call him Chainsaw Man in recognition of his achievements. As he breaks down in front of the TV, Nayuta comforts Denji.

Whilst the Church's "Chainsaw Man" explanation as to what he is isn't accurate, it does line up more with the term "hybrid".
