Charred Remains ( () (あと) Yakeato?) is the 164th Chapter of the Chainsaw Man manga.

Summary[]

Despite his displeasure of getting kicked in the groin by Yoru and Katana Man, Denji demands the group on Nayuta's whereabouts. Yoru doesn't know who Nayuta is and attempts to pull Denji's ripcord to "wake him up". Denji stops Yoru from doing so but lets her know that he'll fight her as much as she wants as long as he knows that Nayuta is safe. Asa retakes control of her body and asks Denji what happened. The group journey back to the site of Denji's home, now reduced to nothing more but charred remains.

Haruka lets Denji know that if Nayuta isn't here, then there's nothing else that they can do to help. Denji doesn't respond; instead, he silently searches through the rubble. Yoru tries to snap him back to reality, as if the last time he saw Nayuta was when she was surrounded by armed adults, then that means she's dead. Denji refuses to believe this and continues searching. Grabbing his hand, Asa draws a comparison just like how he was able to understood her pain when he was saving her, before empathizing with him that she too understands how he feels and vows to do whatever she can to help him.

However, a frustrated Denji tells Asa that she makes no sense due to initial kick to his groin and now her sudden kindness, with Haruka agreeing with him. Asa then tries assuring him that once they fight, he can return to having a normal life. A sullen Denji turns down Asa's offer, much to her confusion. He lets her know that transforming into Chainsaw Man will only bring him pain and suffering, and that his main goal now is to find Nayuta. Asa asks Fami for help, to which the latter suggests that the reason Denji isn't in the mood to fight is due to him being hungry.

Denji's stomach growls, proving Fami's assumption correct. Asa offers to get Denji any type of food he wants, but refuses to buy him sushi due to disliking the dish. In response, Katana Man insults Asa for not getting Denji the food he wants. Denji then resumes rummaging through the burnt remains of his apartment, leading Asa to gaze at him in frustration, with the others remaining silent in confusion and pity.
