Two Good People (
Summary[]
As Asa addresses her mother she and Denji are taken back to a sight from her past - a riverbank where her father is collapsed in front of a younger version of her from a broken leg. Asa explains that they were together as a family when a devil attacked from the river, and soon her mother tells her younger version of herself to get help from Public Safety. The younger Asa trips on the way, but by the time she gets back, her dad is already dead. The current Asa wonders why she’s just remembering this as the young Asa, however, notices both her father now having a crushed skull and blood stains that weren’t previously there on a nearby rock, and putting two and two together, realises it means her mom killed her dad.
Later that night, Asa’s mom justifies what happened due to how the insurance they received from her dad dying from a Devil attack to have been far greater than what they would’ve gotten if he survived and just got treatment for his leg - with the payment even being enough to carry Asa into applying for high school. She reveals that in addition to him being a raging alcoholic, her husband was also cheating on her too. Asa reckons that the younger version of her also wanted her dad to die since her tripping that day was purposeful, not accidental, as she figured the longer she took to get help the less likely he’d survive. She asks Denji if that makes her a bad person but he tells her about how he murdered his dad and staged it to look like a suicide and despite that he’s still good. The two look at each other and burst out laughing, mirroring how Yoru is laughing due to fighting Pochita once more.
