"Denji, boy... we're grateful to you, y'know. You're obedient like a dog, and you work for cheap treats like one too. Thing is... I hate dogs. Can't stand the smell."

Plot[]
Public Safety Saga[]
Introduction arc[]
The Debt Collector is first seen checking on Denji's progress after he kills the Tomato Devil, and gives the young teenager some money before driving off. While in the car, the elderly man explains to one of his subordinates of Denji's situation with his father's debt.
Sometime afterwards, the Debt Collector returns to pick up Denji from his shack, having apparentely found another Devil-hunting job for him. However, upon arriving at the location, this turns out to be a ruse as the Yakuza boss betrays Denji and Pochita to the Zombie Devil. It is then revealed that the entire Yakuza organization Denji worked for made a contract with the Zombie Devil in exchange for more power.
In exchange, the Zombie Devil transforms all Yakuza into mindless zombies and commands them to kill Denji. The Debt Collector is among one of the many zombies Denji later slaughters as Chainsaw Man, now that he no longer has to pay off his debt anymore.[1]
Katana Man arc[]
At some point, Katana Man, the Debt Collector's grandson, would find out about the Debt Collector's death. Believing Denji to be responsible for this, the grandson swore revenge and made an arrangement with Akane Sawatari to replace his heart with the Katana Devil's heart.
This turned him into a Devil-human Hybrid, and the two would plan an all-out attack on Denji and Public Safety. Throughout their many encouters, Katana Man constantly mentions his grandfather's death serving as his primary motive for attempting to kill Denji.[2][3][4][5]
Academy Saga[]
Current arc[]
When confronting Asa Mitaka and Fami's group under Public Safety's orders, Katana Man recalls his grandfather's words on idiots and religion making the world worse. Katana Man also mentions him once again when Asa questions him if she is correct on assuming he has a grudge against Chainsaw Man.[6]
