Kick Back is the first opening theme song of the anime adaptation. It was composed and performed by Kenshi Yonezu.
Opening Animation[]

The opening starts with Denji pulling his cord, with the classical painting "The Divine Comedy" in the background. The scene shifts to Denji, Makima, Power, and Aki frozen still in the city before they begin to move.
Various scenes begin to play rapidly: Denji cradling Pochita in a graveyard; Kishibe pointing a gun; Chainsaw Man and Katana Man fighting while Sawatari jumps into a well; Galgali taking off a shoe; Aki and Denji backing out of a driveway; Kobeni climbing off of a table as Hirokazu gets on; Denji looking horrified as Power laughs in the background; Angel Devil sitting on stairs before looking up at the camera; Himeno and Aki standing on a rooftop.
The main cast are shown watching a movie in a theater, with Angel Devil, Beam, Princi, and Kishibe seen in the background - Kobeni leaves her seat to go the bathroom and Power steals her seat and drink. The scene then cuts to Denji, Power, Makima, and Aki at a bowling alley. Denji polishes his ball as Aki's ball smashes into the pins, which rapidly transition into space before turning into a pin-up of Power on a beach. The camera zooms into Power's bust, then it zooms into Denji being walked like a dog by Makima before the scene is eaten by the Snake Devil as Sawatari and Katana Man's human form look on. The scene cuts to looking overtop a snowy mountain as the Gun Devil's bullet-tendrils swirl around before cutting to Denji and Makima in a library. Makima pets Denji as various plants begin growing on his body, and the camera cuts to his perspective as he stumbles towards Makima (with part of the screen blacked out, referencing his missing eye), who is revealed to be a reflection in water. The scene cuts to the two in the library again as Makima reaches towards Denji. A chainsaw emerges from his forehead as Makima does her signature pose. Denji transforms into Chainsaw Man as the scene rapidly cuts between his transformation and Makima feeding him a snail with strobing eyes.
As the chorus kicks in, the scene cuts to Chainsaw Man fighting a Devil in the city. Power joins in, and Aki watches as Chainsaw Man is thrown into a building, his holes forming the letters CSM. The scene cuts to Chainsaw Man bursting out of the Eternity Devil before returning to the earlier fight, just as a giant golden ball (similar to the one from the bowling scene) appears in the street. As Chainsaw Man watches, Denji's face flashes on screen alongside the bowling scene before the camera moves to Power (just as herself in her "Operation: Super-Smart" outfit flashes on the screen), who sends the ball towards the Devil with a giant blood hammer as Chainsaw Man rides on top, jumping to finish off the Devil.
The scene abruptly cuts to Denji melancholically cooking alone in Aki's apartment, before the camera zooms out of the door in his mind and returns to rapidly transitioning between scenes: Power walks away from Aki as the devil they were fighting explodes in the background; a young Denji sleeps with Pochita; younger versions of Power and Denji play with food and their pets as a snow-covered Aki stands on a pile of snow next to them, with Makima standing on an even bigger pile of books to look over a wall; the Future Devil dances in its room; the Ghost Devil grabs a lamppost; Katana Man spreads his arms as blades swing around him; Power and Denji dance as Aki watches, before the camera moves behind them - Aki turns towards the camera and summons the Fox Devil, who devours the camera from off-screen and the anime's logo appears.

Physical Release[]
Kick Back was released physically in Japan on November 23, 2022 under Yonezu's brand Reissue Records.[1] The release was split into three sets; the CD alone for just ¥1,100, the Video Board which also contained a DVD for ¥2,200, and the Chainsaw Board for ¥3,500 which came with a chainsaw themed necklace. Additionally, early customers were able to obtain a bonus sticker with their purchase.
The CD includes the full song, the TV edit, and an additional new song titled Hazukashikutte Shouganee (恥ずかしくってしょうがねえ?). The DVD in the Video Board set includes the music video for the and the opening animation for the anime.

- The insect on top of Denji's head appears to be a jade wasp (Ampulex compressa), which parasites the cockroaches with its own larvae. In the same scene, the snail Makima is feeding Denji shows symptoms of parasitic disease from Leucochloridium paradoxum, a worm that parasites snails. These two animals could be an allegory of Makima as the Control Devil attempting to "parasitize" Denji's mind and control his actions.
- The scene of Denji bursting out of the Eternity Devil is a allusion to Neon Genesis Evangelion, where Unit-01 escapes from Leliel by tearing its way out of its body.
- The song's name, Kick Back, may reference a chainsaw accident type of the same name where a chainsaw's blade unexpectedly jolts upwards, sending the spinning teeth upwards into the operator. This may reference Denji's self-destructive habits brought about or worsened indirectly from acquiring the Chainsaw Devil's power.
