"I'm not about to worship you, but I am grateful to you with every passing day! In the Chainsaw Man Church, I'm truly free! I realized something! My body, my brain... I ought to use them for myself!"
Miri Sugo (
Miri later returns in the Academy Saga as a supporting character, working under the orders of Barem and the Chainsaw Man Church alongside his other fellow Weapon Humans.
Appearance[]
Human Form[]
Miri is a young man of average height with unkempt black hair that goes down to the middle of his neck and visible dark circles under his blue eyes. He wears a drawstring hoodie underneath his Fourth East High School uniform with dark pants and white sneakers. During his time as one of Makima's brainwashed servants, he wore the Public Safety Devil Hunter suit over his hoodie. His human appearance is noted as looking halfway between Denji and Haruka by his fellow classmates.[1]
Hybrid Form[]
When transformed, Miri takes on a demonic visage similar to that of Denji and Katana Man. In place of his head rests a jagged, triangular metal visor from which two longswords protrude backwards, resembling a pair of rabbit ears or horns. His teeth also become more sharp and jagged. Similar to Katana Man, Miri's arms notably have large longswords emerging from them.[2] In the Public Safety Saga, his arms contain cross-guards protruding from his elbows. However, in the Academy Saga, these are absent.[3]
Personality[]
Initially, Miri's real personality was unknown due to being brainwashed and mind-controlled by Makima, although it seemed like he enjoyed attention and wanted to impress Makima.[4] His character biography for the Second Popularity Poll refers to him as a young man with a light impression on things.[5]
Post-mind control, Miri does seem to be fairly regretful for his actions during the fight, as he was able to seek out Denji to talk to him in private and empathize with his current situation. His regret stems from how he allowed himself to be manipulated by Makima, similar to Denji. As such, not only does Miri highly value his newfound free will, but he also wants to befriend Denji out of gratitude for killing Makima and freeing him from her control.[6] Despite his best intentions, however, others such as Fumiko have noted how he still seems to be prone to being manipulated by others, despite his insistence that the opposite is true.[7]
He is shown to easily fall for the Church's conspiracy theories. When Denji, the real Chainsaw Man, tells him that those are lies, Miri admits that the Church may not be fully honest but that it saved many people regardless and that the ends justify the means, therefore proving Fumiko's point.[8] Denji's words do seem to have influenced him somewhat, as he's later seen questioning their decision-making.
His gratitude towards Denji has also left him fairly unsociable towards others who aren't Denji. Upon transferring to Fourth East High School, Miri immediately announces that he isn't interested in making friends while calling his classmates "pieces of trash". When bothered by some of his female classmates, Miri complains that they won't stop talking to him, even asking Denji to make them go away. Despite his attempts to befriend Denji, he seems to draw the line at "infantile behavior", as seen when Denji and Fumiko discussed their everyday food preferences instead of focusing on his offer.
Out of the four church members of "The Weapons", he alone seems to have the strongest moral compass, as he's shown to be heavily hesitant towards their plan to carry out mass murder in hopes of drawing Chainsaw Man out from hiding. He refuses the Whip Hybrid's idea that they were merely weapons, insisting that he is a human and he should think for himself.[9][10]
In spite of this, Miri is still willing to aid Barem and the others in their plans and was fully ready to begin a massacre at the mall. When confronting Denji after his home had just been burned down, Miri still insists that everything they had done thus far was in order to save the world and stop the prophecy of Nostradamus. He encourages Denji to unleash his anger in order to save the world, causing the Whip Hybrid to laugh at his statements of delusion.[11] Miri's inability to comprehend the severity of his actions and their emotional impact prevents him from breaking free of being manipulated by Barem and the other Weapons.

Hybrid Powers[]
- Hybrid Transformation: Miri can remove his right hand and reveal a blade on the inside of his arm to transform into his hybrid form.
- Augmented Body: Miri has strength, defense, and speed well above average for being a hybrid, being able to match beings like Katana Man and Chainsaw Man.
- Blades: Like Katana Man, Miri has sharp blades on his arms that he uses to slash his opponents in combat.
- Blood Consumption: As a Hybrid, Miri is able to heal wounds by consuming blood, regenerating his entire body.
- Nigh-Immortality: Due to being a Hybrid, Miri is immortal and nearly unkillable. He can survive getting beheaded, impaled, and take all kinds of injuries that would kill most Devils. Even if he dies, as long as someone removes his right hand, Miri can come back to life in perfect condition.
